Hey guys! My name is Charline and I am 36 years old. I have two very active boys ages 9 and 11 and a 14-year-old stepson, and I'm married to the man I love. I am a manager at an aeronautics company where I work long, unpredictable hours. I have degenerative disk disease and recently underwent a triple cervical disectomy with fusion, so now I have a titanium plate in my neck. If it hadn't been for Beachbody, I am sure my recovery would not have been as fast or as complete as it has been.
I've always had "hips," but I never had a weight problem until my first pregnancy, when I gained 60 pounds. I had only lost 20 of those pounds when I became pregnant with my second child, and I gained 40 another pounds with that one. For the first time in my life, I weighed over 200 pounds (I don't know the exact weight because I could never force myself to stand on a scale long enough to get the reading). I was extremely depressed, which affected everyone around me. Soon after having my second child, I saw a picture of myself from behind and wondered who that fat person was, until it hit me... THAT WAS ME!!!!
To add insult to injury, I had to see my doctor on account of my recurring back problems. I couldn't believe what he was telling me. He said I had a bulging disk and two choices: either lose weight or have surgery. Did he just call me OBESE???? So there I was, depressed, stressed, and not just overweight but obese. For this and other reasons, my marriage was feeling the strain. Our finances were in trouble and I was on the verge of a complete nervous breakdown. I knew something had to change.
The first step was to get my head on straight and start exercising and eating right. I started out slow, riding a bike. I was ashamed I couldn't go a mile without dying. I began losing weight slowly but steadily, and I had a hard time staying motivated. I tried step aerobics classes, but hated having to go to the gym at a certain time because, like many people, my life is not on a regular schedule. Then I moved from Florida back to my home state of Texas. I wanted to continue my weight loss. I tried everything from jazzercise to kickboxing, but nothing kept me motivated and I had a hard time making it to the scheduled classes. That's when my weight loss stopped and I felt like I would never lose all the weight.
In 1999, I made the hard decision to end my 10-year marriage. I got down to a size 8 but it wasn't in a healthy way. Over the next two years my weight increased between 10 and 20 pounds, and I resolved that I was just going to be a size 14 and felt even more depressed.
I met my current husband in August 2002 and we married in May 2003. In February 2004 I saw the Slim in 6 infomercial and was just mesmerized by all the stories. I just knew I could be one of those Success Stories! I ordered the program and told my new hubby to wake me when he got up at 4:45 AM because I was going to be working out. I'm sure he thought I had lost my mind, but I knew it was the only time I could get in my workout. So that's what I did. I joined MyBeachbody diet club and started cooking and eating healthy and started taking Slimming Formula. I also visited the Beachbody Message Boards and found so many people who had overcome almost insurmountable odds to become who they are, and they became (and still are) my inspiration.
After phenomenal results with Slim in 6, I realized I had previously ordered one of your other great programs, Power 90. I completed a round of Power 90 and was able to get into the best shape of my life...at 35 years old!
I started another round of Power 90, but just 35 days into the program I awakened to excruciating pain in my right shoulder and numbness in my hand. After weeks of trying different things, an MRI revealed that I had degenerative disk disease and spurring of the spinal cord by three of my cervical disks. So I had a multilevel cervical disectomy on June 2, 2005. After nearly three months of not being able to move, the doctor gave me the go-ahead to restart Power 90. This time I added ActiVit Multi-Vitamins and P90X Peak Recovery Formula (LOVE this stuff!!!!!!). By now I am completely healed. I will complete this round of Power 90 in September 2005, and have been able to regain my strength and fitness level as if I never missed a beat.
As far as work goes, my confidence has soared and I was able to land a lifetime career position. With this job, I am at work by 6:30 AM and it could be a 12-hour day (or more) six to seven days a week. Not to mention the soccer, basketball, baseball, hockey, and football practice my kids participate in. The last thing I want to do is go back out to the gym. That's why I love your programs so much! With the Message Boards, I have gotten the support I need to keep going.
To those of you who say, "I just can't find the time to do this," I am here to tell you that if you want this badly enough, you will do whatever it takes. I had to change my schedule and faithfully log into WOWY (another GREAT Beachbody tool!) at 4:30 AM six days a week to get in my workouts. Trust me, I am NOT a morning person, but this way I KNOW I'll get in my workout. No excuses. The changes in my life have made it worth whatever it takes.
People are shocked when they find out I weighed over 200 pounds. I carry my "before" pictures to remind myself of where I never want to be again. The physical changes have been wonderful, but they do not even come close to the positive emotional and mental changes that have taken place within me. I do not even recognize the old, depressed me. I can see the "old" me in so many faces, and I just want to run up to them and hug them and tell them THEY CAN DO IT!!! And Beachbody can help make it possible.
Thank you for all you do!!!
