2004 Hollywood Trip


My name is Amy and I am from the St. Louis area. When I turned 30, I decided it was time to start a family, and my husband (my high school sweetheart of 13 years) agreed. I wasn't involved in sports growing up, but I was a dancer on the high school pom-pom squad, and was basically pretty physically fit. My high school weight was 120 to 125 pounds. At 30 I weighed about 140 pounds, and I was trying to drop 10 pounds before getting pregnant, but that didn't happen. I knew that pregnancy would make losing weight challenging because it had always been a struggle for me to lose.

I got pregnant immediately, and gained over 50 pounds with my son. The weight went all over me, starting in my thighs, hips, and rear, then to my belly, arms, and face! I had to have an emergency C-section, which was emotionally upsetting, and I was concerned about what my recovery would be like. I was fearful of not ever having the same abdominal muscles again. Friends who had had C-sections would tell me how you can never get rid of the flab after they cut through those muscles. After my six-week recovery I was given the okay to work out, and after a few months, I lost 20–25 pounds. I still had a good 20­–30 to go when it seemed I had leveled off.

When my son turned 5 months old, I found out I was pregnant again! I was extremely concerned about now gaining MORE weight on top of the weight I had never lost. I only gained 26 pounds with my daughter, but ended up at the same weight that I did with my son, which was 190 pounds!! Again I had a C-section, this time scheduled. I was left with a newborn, a 14-month-old, and a totally out-of-shape body! At my six-week checkup I found out that I was only 6 pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight, but since 30 pounds had lingered from the first baby, that was really 36 pounds!

I saw the infomercial for the Slim in 6 videos and told my husband I wanted them for my birthday. The tapes came, I was given the okay to work out once again, and I was ready to start. Then I got mastitis. It is a breast infection from nursing. I ended up the Emergency Room, and was admitted for a couple nights while I received antibiotics to kill the infection. That was a setback. After healing from that, I started the tapes, and quickly realized it was very painful to stretch, do a sit-up, or even to breathe deep, so I went to the doctor and found out I had a pulled rib muscle from a bad cough I had had. Unbelievable!!!! I had to postpone the workouts once again!

Finally my maternity leave was ending, so it was back to teaching—FULL TIME. This was hard to adjust to because I had taken a full year's maternity leave to stay home with my son, and I never had to worry about dressing up for work and fitting into my clothes. It was all sweats and shorts! Now that I was going back to work with TWO babies, I HAD to get into my clothes AND find the time in my busy schedule to commit to the workouts.

I started both work and working out, and I haven't stopped! So far I've lost 25 pounds and I'm at 140. My goal is 130, but I am still losing, so I'm confident I'll get there. I've lost a total of 20 inches off my entire body!! I didn't get to wear my summer clothes for the past two summers because I was pregnant, but now everything that I had before the babies fits again. It's a great feeling when people at work and family members tell me I look really good, and ask what I am doing. My husband and I went to Jamaica, and some people, after looking at our pictures, even commented on the 6-pack abs I've got started.

I've worked hard to get where I am, and there were many obstacles that tried to get in the way, but I didn't let them. I have just recently started Power 90, to give myself a different challenge and knock off these last 10 pounds. I hope my results have encouraged others to get the program and get started on it, too. I know at least two friends who have already ordered Slim in 6 since seeing and talking to me!! Thank you, Beachbody, for being there and for being an inspiration for me!
