I am forty-one years old and my wife, Connie, is forty. We have two children ages thirteen and eleven. I have always been active in sports, playing all sports in high school and running track and cross-country in college. After I got out of college I continued to run but not as much as I had in the past and my weight started to sneak up on me. At that age I could go run a couple of miles a day for a few days and take off whatever weight I wanted to. As I grew older it became harder to loose the extra pounds I was putting on. Connie was a swimmer and has always had a slim build.

In 1989 I became a police officer and went to the police academy. There is a saying in police work that when you become a police officer, you give up the right to be unfit. After ten weeks of working out and running in the academy, I weighed two hundred and twenty five pounds. At twenty-eight years old, I thought I was in as good of shape as I could be.

As time went on, my weight went higher and higher. With two kids I had less time to work out. About seven years ago I was promoted to detective. That meant much more time sitting at my desk and less getting in and out of the squad car and staying active during the day. Along with the promotion came more weight. Before I knew it I was over two hundred and sixty pounds. I started to run again and that was helping some but, the weight was not coming off like it used to. In February of 2002 I tore the meniscus in my left knee and had to have surgery. Then I felt like I was stuck, I did not think I would get to the point where I could go run a couple of miles without some serious pain. By the middle of the summer I was running about a mile and a half but the weight was not coming off.

I knew I needed to do something but I did not know what. There is a history of heart disease on my father's side of the family. My Dad and all three of his brothers died of heart attacks in their fifties. My dad was fifty-two. On my Mom's side of the family is diabetes. My Mom is diabetic and so was my grandfather. High blood pressure is also on my Mom's side of the family. As I began to think about all of these things and looked at my family I was afraid I would not be there to "walk my daughter down the aisle". And I had violated my own rights. I was unfit.

A friend o mine at work Mark was doing the Power 90 program workout. (His picture is posted on the Slim in 6 page) Mark who is in very good shape, told me it was the best work out he had ever done. I looked at him and he looked like Mr. Clean and I looked like Chris Farley. I went home and told my wife Connie what Mark had said. She was not sure if she wanted to spend the money or not. She had told me several times that she wanted to work out with me. She is not a runner and I thought you had to do a lot of running to get in shape. Boy was I wrong.

On the Sunday morning between Christmas and New Years we were watching TV and the Power 90 infomercial was on. Connie watched it with me and we agreed to give it a try. One of the biggest selling points for me was the no gimmicks part of the ad. I took the ninety-day in home boot camp as a challenge. I knew there were no short cuts to fitness and this did not promise any. We ordered it as soon as the infomercial was over.

When the program arrived we both read through the material and did the fast start program that weekend and started on Monday. I weighed two hundred and sixty-one pounds. We did the workout together and it was a great help having somebody to work out with. We followed the program guide, modified our diets and took supplements. During the ninety days we went to Florida for spring break. We took the program with us and did it each morning. By the time we got to Florida I had lost thirty-five pounds. I was carrying two fifteen pound dumbbells from the van to the room. It was then that I realized how much weight I had lost. I could not believe that I used to carry that much weight on my body every day.

We finished the program on 04-12-03. Connie had lost a total of ten pounds and six inches. She dropped from a size ten to six. I had lost forty-eight pounds and over twelve inches. I now weigh two hundred and thirteen pounds! I don't even remember the last time I weighed under two hundred and twenty. My pants size went from a forty inch waist to a thirty-six inch waist. But more important that that, my blood pressure dropped a total of thirty-three points and my resting heart rate dropped ten bpm.

I was at work on 04-11-03 when I saw a car driving with no registration plates. The driver did not look like he was old enough to have a license. When I tried to stop the car it sped away. It pulled into a parking lot and hit a parked car. The driver jumped out and took off the running. I ran after him. As I was running after him I was thinking, if he was going to run from me, he should have done it on day one of Power 90, not when I had one day to go. I caught him about two blocks later. He was fifteen years old and had stolen the car the night before from a local car lot. It felt great being forty-one years old and being able to catch a fifteen year old kid who was running from a stolen car.

I started running again. I run two miles a day three times a week. It is so much easier to run when you are not dragging an extra fifty pounds with you. But what I enjoy even more than that is how much better I feel and how much more energy I have to play with my kids. No more making excuses about why I couldn't play games with them. It was because I was fat and lazy. When I look back at my day one picture, I am ashamed I ever let myself get that fat. I feel great and people ask me all the time how I did it. I am quick to tell them about Power 90 and how well the program works. Since I started the program four people I work with have started it as well.

Because of Power 90 and my wife working out with me, I was able to recover a stolen car and earn back the right to be fit. Thank you Tony Horton and the rest of the Power 90 staff, because of you I feel great and am in the best shape I have been in since running in college twenty-one years ago.
