2004 Hawaii Trip
Dear Tony, Carl, and the rest of Beachbody:
What a great experience with Power 90! November 17th to February 15th seemed to go by very quickly and I really do have a new body! And it's only going to get better.
I am a 39-year-old physician with a wonderful wife and family of four children. I've been about 20 to 30 pounds overweight for the past 18 years, yo-yoing up and down as I tried diets and running. I was a long-distance runner in high school, and have continued to run off and on. Over the past three years I ran in seven marathons, and at times I was starting to get into "pretty good" shape from a cardio standpoint, but even then I was struggling to get my weight down another 10 pounds. I never have had a "Beachbody" with 6-pack abs (my belly has always been my biggest trouble spot) and a ripped physique. That is my goal now, in addition to running a marathon in under three hours next year.
Throughout my life, and as a physician, I have always felt that being in good physical condition was important, but somehow I fooled myself into thinking that I was doing enough to live by that principle. I was even blind to my condition when I looked in the mirror. I didn't think I looked too bad, except when I occasionally saw myself in pictures. Pictures show the whole truth that mirrors cannot. I was overweight and in marginal physical condition, and I hated to admit that.
Over the past two years, I had seen the Power 90 infomercial several times. Every time I flipped through the channels and saw it, I stopped flipping and continued watching. Tony looked so good, and everything he said sounded so convincing. He did not promise a quick fix (although 90 days is pretty quick!), he said it was hard work but promised amazing results if the program was followed exactly as prescribed. I don't know why it never occurred to me to order the program even though I kept watching that infomercial. I guess I did not see myself doing workouts at home to a videotape. I figured I could just get my running going strong again and do a little weight lifting on the side.
But after multiple viewings of the infomercial, I decided I really wanted to do the program. I showed my wife the Power 90 Web site because she was also hoping to get into great shape, and we finally ordered the program. We were excited and had a hard time waiting until the package came. We started working out the day it arrived, and I never missed a day.
For people like us who are strapped for time and do not have a lot of time to travel back and forth to a gym, Power 90 is an excellent program that takes you through a very effective workout in about an hour.
We found that diet is definitely as important as exercise in developing a great body. Power 90 helped me develop muscles and increase strength, and gave me a way to burn a lot of extra calories. However, to achieve the physical appearance I desire, I really had to change my diet habits as wellwhich has been the greatest challenge for me in this program. I began following the Step-by-Step Nutrition Guide. I had been eating too many of the foods in tiers 3, 4, and 5 of Michi's Ladder. It was hard to cut out the unhealthy foods after years of habitually eating junk, especially over the holiday season. For the first time in my life I actually lost weight and became more fit over Christmas! I do believe that after 90 days of focused, clean eating, it has now become a true lifestyle change and I do not miss the junk food. My wife and I are eating better now than we ever have in our lives (and our kids are doing better, too).
Tony Horton was right. After 90 days of consistent workouts and a clean diet, I see and feel some amazing changes in my strength and appearance. I lost 20 pounds and my body fat percentage went from 26% to about 14%. I still don't quite have the 6-pack, but it is beginning to emerge. I was planning to do a second round of Power 90 in order to attain my fitness goals, but then P90X was released and my wife and I could not resist. Now we are "Bringing It" with the rest of the P90X Xplorers! I must say this new program is AMAZING! I have no doubts that we will "arrive" by doing this incredible program for another 90 days and beyond.
I have really enjoyed my interaction with others through the Beachbody Message Boards. Some amazing people and stories are there, and it is great to have inspiring virtual workout buddies. I have made several new friends. Near the end of our Power 90 program, Beachbody introduced WOWY, a fantastic site where you can virtually work out with others. Even though I've had the great support of my wife, it was an additional boost to join others online as we pounded out the workouts daily.
Thank you, Tony, Carl, Jon, and everyone at Beachbody! You have put together an outstanding company and programs that have significantly improved my life and the lives of thousands of others.
