2004 Hawaii Trip
For 20 years I worked as a paramedic for fire departments, hospitals, and private ambulance services. It was rewarding to help others, but never getting a full night's sleep and eating nothing but fast food took a toll on my body.
I was at a funeral for a fellow paramedic who had died of a heart attack at the age of 38. The local newspaper had taken a picture of the casket being off loaded from the fire truck. I was in the foreground. The view was from the back. I didn't recognize myself! I thought it was a photo of "the fat guy" from work.
That evening while eating dinnera Wendy's quarter-pound double stack and fries at 11 p.m.at the firehouse, I saw the infomercial for Power 90. It was my Christmas present to my wife and myself.
We got the package in January. I got a day job without 24-hour shifts, and began the Power 90 program. Michi's Ladder was the first realistic, common sense diet plan I had seen. Using its guidelines, my wife and I cut down on carbs and dumped the junk food. I swore off soda and began a year (excluding holidays) of no beer. My new job's hours allowed for about 30 minutes in the morning to work out with my wife. After a couple of weeks we could do the transitions in Level 1-2. We lived in fear of stepping up to 3-4. When the time came, we found that we could do it, transitions and all! Man, were we on fire. One of the things that made the Power 90 program doable was that Tony kept it "human." I didn't have to be perfect.
Then came Power Half Hour. My wife Christie really shined here. I could do 30 minutes before work. She did an hour, continuing with a second segment after I left. Funnyshe did twice the workout and lost twice as much weight. Hmm. There could be something to this stuff.
Over the course of the program, I went from a 46- to a 36-inch waist. I lost two inches from my neck and almost an inch from my wrists! (Had to resize my watch.) I started at 267 pounds (6'2" tall) and am now 224 pounds. That's 43 pounds of fat gone! I still have a way to go before I will consider my goals attained. The bar keeps getting higher as I progress.
I cannot thank Beachbody enough. My wife and I have gained self-respect, which is now spilling over to other areas of our lives. As marital bliss, family happiness, health, and prosperity continue to grow, we look back and understand that Beachbody's Tony, Carl, and Jon provided the vehicle, while Tony II, Shawn, Paul. Lisa, Dreya, Kelly, Bobby, Shane and Heather all provided the daily motivation. Thanks to you, and the Lord willing, it will be a very long time before anyone has to carry my casket.
