Whole grains are back! Lumping all carbohydrates into one big, bad clump was crazy. In 2005, U.S. dietary guidelines suggested people eat 3 ounces of whole-grain cereals, breads, crackers, rice, or pasta every day. Every day! Take that, Dr. Atkins! The scientific evidence shows whole grains lower your risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, obesity, and constipation. Go, man, go! The same research showed refined grains had minimal benefits and could cause constipation. Goodbye, morning white bagel.
