Even though the weight is small, the extra weight not only provides some resistance, but causes you to use other connecting muscles in your shoulders and arms so that you can control the weight while you punch (instead of just throwing your arms out). I guess the best way to describe it would be to tell you to put a 16oz soft drink in each hand and try punching vigorously with them for 30 seconds. Now immediately open one of them up and have a sip of that refreshing cola, you've earned it! Go ahead, I'll wait.

I bought these to use with the KenpoX program in P90X Extreme Home Fitness Workout Program - 13 DVDs, Nutrition Guide, Exercise Planner. It is a decent workout but not nearly intense enough. I kind of scoffed at the idea of wearing gloves that added a measly 1 pound to each hand, but bought them based on other reviews here. I couldn't believe what a difference they made. I was actually sore the day after my workout and could tell the gloves were the cause. Oh man, I can't believe you fell for that! Sorry, I couldn't resist. But anyway, they really made a difference in my workout. The gloves are made of neoprene and feel good in my hands. The velcro straps keep them tight so they're not flailing around, and they feel like part of my hands. I sweat a lot during kenpo, but had no problems with them sliding around at all. Plus, they look really cool and make me feel like Jean Claude Van Damme in Kickboxer. I've thought about dipping my gloves in resin and then rolling them around in crushed glass like he does in the film, but I am not sure what effect that would have on the durability of the neoprene so I will hold off for now.

These gloves are relatively expensive. But once you have them -- they're good to use. Have a solid feel and weight to them that is reassuring when punching, stretching or lifting weights.
You get momentum when you use these, which is fun.

This is a good buy, because you will be improving your fitness and your exercises, but this is not a need purchase.

Solidly knitted and I am able to punch bricks with these! (and only slightly feel it). And I am still able to feel things through them -- e.g.: pick up a banana and peel it (not do sewing).
I think these should be in every home!
I purchased these weighted gloves a month or two ago and have used them only a couple of time. I am used to the Beachbody weighted gloves, where the weight is in the palm of my hand. The weight on these gloves is on the back of my hands. And I do not find it very comfortable to wear when I go running (as I usually wear weighted gloves during a run to increase calorie-burn), since I cannot bend my hand into a fist very well with the weights starting at the back of my hand leading to my wrist. Either way, it was still a good value...less expensive than the Beachbody gloves and a little heavier, which was what I was going for in the first place.

Tony Stark gloves! -- Good and heavy. (Wish they made even heavier ones).
These weighted gloves in my opinnion are a great buy. The one size fits all easily accomodated my large hands. The wrist strap is very secure, and I have had no issues with the glove coming loose or undone. Being a big adult male I was reluctant at first due to the light weight of the gloves as any one would take notice, but after my first few workouts of shadow boxing along with cardio the light weight becomes noticable indeed. These gloves are a daily staple with my workout routines. If your looking for added free hand weight, buy these gloves!

These gloves are great for what they do -- which is give your hands extra weight when turbo-jamming or P90X'ing. But I did a foolish thing and tried using them in my fire-dancing routine and they just did not hold up very well.
I'm thinking that the weights in the gloves heat up and boy howdy that burns.
