The Truth about P90X36
Each year, a handful of fitness fads explode onto the American scene. And, each year, an equal number fizzle out in far less spectacular fashion. But every so often, one sticks around, and for the last several years running it has been P90X—a wildly popular home-based fitness routine with a growing (and near fanatical) following among weekend warriors and A-list celebs alike (Ewan McGregor, Ashton Kutcher, and Donavan McNabb are among its devotees). It’s also one of the most popular search terms on MensHealth.com. But if you’re reading these words, you’ve found the only ones we’ve ever written about it. Why? Because while P90X might be able to accomplish what it claims for $120 (i.e., “transform you from regular to ripped in 90 days”), it’s likely not the total-body fitness solution that most people are looking for.
If you watch late night television, you’ve seen the infomercials: Fitness trainer Tony Horton and a handful of attractive models explain that by constantly introducing new exercises and workouts—which run the gambit from traditional strength sessions to Kenpo karate classes—you’ll achieve a constant state of “muscular confusion.” The less your muscles adapt, Horton explains, the faster they’ll grow.
The idea of “muscular confusion” isn’t new. And unfortunately for Horton and the folks at Beachbody—who also introduced the world to Hip Hop Abs and the Turbo Jam workout—it’s not based on science. “It’s a marketing term invented by Joe Weider [the creater of the Mr. Olympia bodybuilding contest] back in the 1980s,” says Bill Hartman, C.S.C.S, a strength coach in Indianapolis. “And it’s kind of counterproductive.”
Here’s why: If muscles don’t adapt, they don’t grow. “The whole goal of weightlifting to is to get an adaptation to occur,” says Hartman, “and that requires multiple exposures to the same stimulus.”
Unless you’re a beginner, doing something different every workout can actually halt your progress if you’re trying to add lean mass. (If you’ve never worked out before, just about any novel exercise stimulus will trigger muscle growth.) “But if you’re already carrying a bit of muscle, you probably won’t see the same sort of effect,” says Hartman. “What you might see, however, is fat loss.”
By constantly changing your workouts, you’re body will never become efficient in the motor pattern of any one exercise, and the less efficient you are, the greater the metabolic (fat burning) stimulus will be. “So if you’re primary concern is weight loss, then there’s nothing wrong with P90X,” says Hartman. “In fact, it might be a very good program, because the Hollywood-style presentation will keep you engaged.”
Does all of this mean that you should never vary your workouts? Certainly not. Variation is key to any good training program—as long as it’s not too frequent. Neither do your workouts need to vary radically from one to the next to achieve radical results. Indeed, the best way to achieve big gains is to make small changes to your fitness plan when you begin to notice diminishing returns—you’ve been curling the same amount for a couple of weeks, for example, or your progress on the bench has come to a screeching halt. Even then, the best solution isn’t necessarily to switch up the exercises that you’re doing.
“Instead, follow the same strategy used by many elite athletes,” says Hartman. “Rather than change the exercise, change how you do it.” Slight alterations in tempo, load, sets, reps, or rest periods are often all it takes to stimulate new muscle growth. Here are three rut-busting strategies to get you started. You can apply them all to your existing program without changing a single exercise—or spending a single dime.
1) Alternate the Order Sometimes breaking through a fitness plateau is as simple as changing the sequence of your exercises. Most guys run through their workouts doing one exercise at a time, which is fine if you have time to kill and enjoy the slow-and-steady approach to muscle-building. If you want to maximize your gains, however, do supersets—two exercises performed back to back without rest. Pair noncompeting muscle groups, such as your deltoids and glutes, so that one muscle group can recover while the other works. Combining a chest press with a row, or a shoulder press with a deadlift, for example, would work perfectly. Such multitasking will not only save you time, but also help you build more muscle and burn more fat by increasing the intensity of your workout.
2) Change the Tempo Instead of raising and lowering the weight in one continuous motion, try pausing for a second about halfway up, and then again about halfway down. Another strategy: Use a tempo of 4 seconds up, and 4 down for eight weight-lifting sessions, and then adopt a 2-seconds-up, 2-seconds-down tempo for your next eight. Studies show that tweaking the parameters of an exercise is more important than varying the exercises themselves.
3) Vary the Volume Instead of always doing 3 sets of 8 to 10 reps, try reducing the weight and shoot for 4 sets of 15 reps. Alternatively, you might skip rep counts entirely, and simply focus on doing as many as you can in 60 seconds. A recent study in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research found that men who regularly varied their rep counts and trained different muscle groups increased their bench strength by 28 percent and their leg press strength by 43 percent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by clubby38 It's befuddling - the fine line between super easy and hard as when it comes to understanding what it takes to improve your life. Here's my shot at it. I'm learning that when you decide to eat right and exercise regularly the person you become has it pretty easy and life no longer seems hard as . It's been the strangest phenomenon in my personal life. I used to have so many problems and issues. Everything seemed difficult and daunting. There was so much drama and conflict. I was lazy, tired and overwhelmed. Life was a struggle. Not in a million years would I have equated a poor diet and erratic physical activity as the bane of my existence.
In my late 20s and early 30s I began to eat better and workout more regularly - oddly enough new opportunities came my way, my confidence improved and the drama began to fade away. At that time I still wouldn't have thought life outside of my workouts was getting better because of my workouts and healthier food. I never put 2 and 2 together. I chalked it up to luck, nothing more. There were times in those days when I'd get lazy, eat garbage food and blow off workouts and what do you know, life got hard again. I still didn't think the two opposing situations/events had anything to do with each other.
By the time I met BeachBody CEO Carl Daikeler 13 years ago my fitness and food balance was close to great. Not perfect but pretty good. Those early days creating routines for Great Body Guaranteed and Power90 were fun and exciting. I was in the right place at the right time with the right experience to be able to help Carl and Jon create something different and better when it came to in-home workouts. As a teenager and young adult when I had a horrible diet and very little exercise, my life was a wreck because I didn't have the feel good brain chemistry of a person who was firing on all cylinders from making better choices. When I was in my sometimes-on-sometimes-off phase I was suffering from what I call "Fitness Bi-polar Disorder" because I wasn't consistent enough to reap the life altering benefits of a true health and wellness lifestyle. In only the last 2 or 3 years have I understood how 6 to 7 days a week of exercise and eating whole foods can provide the energy and enthusiasm to take life on. John Ratey's Book "Spark" and Chris Crowley's & Henry Lodge's book "Younger Next Year" were also the catalyst for my present thinking.
I'm writing this because I want you to realize that life can be incredible - not through luck or upbringing or even education. I know plenty of people with a great education and money and they're a mess. Joy, happiness, opportunities, success and the life you want comes from making The Change to a lifestyle that involves regular exercise and whole foods. What seems hard as at first will turn your life into a carefree world of endless experiences, plenty of opportunities and the energy and enthusiasm to enjoy life for the rest of your life. The issues and drama of the past will fade way because you had the courage to make consistent fitness and healthy food a priority.

I been using everlast pro. Training gloves for heavy bag work and previous to that used cheaper everlast training/bag gloves. I decided I needed a bag glove with more padded and better wrist support. I head good things about the title gel training gloves and decided to try the weighed bag version.
After first opening the box I noticed how large they are, heavy amount of padding on the the knuckle area and soft feeling leather, the heavy knuckle padding being the most comfortable for me. My gloves came with the weights already zipped inside the gloves. Upon first putting it on I noticed heavy amount of weigh in the wrist area, naturally the area of the small metal weights. Without the weights the gloves feel just as good, just a bit lighter.
The inside of the glove is spacious and feels great on my hands which are larger than average size. It was easy to make a fist inside of them and felt already broken in. I could easily put both on without anyone’s help and the D ring makes it easy to adjust and tighten and loosen with ease. After putting my normal traditional hand wraps and slipping the gloves on I hit the bag with a few light shots and noticed no discomfort and it felt great. Then I hit the bag as hard as I could and the same affect. Great wrist support and my normal discomfort was gone. These gloves are awesome and will not disappoint. Great knuckle padding good customizable wrist support and after my workout my wrist and knuckles felt great.
Appearance/Look: 10/10 –( standard title world gel logo and smooth leather)
Comfort -10/10- Very little breaking, I bought the size large for me but also available in regular for those with smaller hands.
These gloves will not disappoint great protection at reasonable price on sale now for $59.99. Much better than everlast which I advise people don’t buy for heavy bag work or for anything else for that matter.
For great bag gloves I would recommend these, title’s standard gel heavy bag gloves, or Ringside IMF tech bag gloves which are also very good.

I bought a second pair for my wife to use for her workouts. These have a good velcro strap across the palm and the wrist, if you are really sweating they may get a little loose, but you can tighten them up pretty good. Glad I bought them!"

This product is very easy to put on, It has the appropriate weight to wear it all day long knowing that you are gaining strength from it while doing your usual things. No need to increase the weight on this product because if you wanted heavier weights mind as well buy dumbells or wrist weights.
overall this is a really great price for Weighted Gloves . Great for step class or any activity where you want to up your intensity & not bother holding onto dumbells. My only complaint with this item, is it should have the option to add more weigh to each glove, so user can add up to 5-10 lbs per glove.
